# Inserting special characters

In Windows, use the [Character Map](https://support.microsoft.com/en-za/help/315684/how-to-use-special-characters-in-windows-documents) (you should be able to access it by tapping the Windows key once, then typing 'Character Map'), or use [Alt codes](https://usefulshortcuts.com/alt-codes/).

On a Mac, use the [Character Viewer](https://support.apple.com/en-za/guide/mac-help/mchlp1560/mac).

In Linux, you can use [Unicode codes](https://fsymbols.com/keyboard/linux/unicode/).
